The Pottery Studio is a knowledge base for
collectors, students and lovers of all kinds of pottery. Our aim
is to include examples of work from all the major and minor potters
and potteries. There are already over seven thousand six hundred pages, and we are adding
to them regularly. You will find a note against some items that the
information has not yet been added. This will be rectified in time.
We have divided the information into three categories - pots, potters and potteries. These are loose terms; a region where a particular type of pottery is made is classified as a pottery, a prominent designer or decorator is classed as a potter. There is an index for each category, and the items within the categories have links to related pages.
We have tried to keep the information clear and concise. We have deliberately avoided giving price guides for two reasons: firstly, the prices can vary widely between countries and regions within countries - the prices we see in the various publications are usually not the prices we would expect to buy or sell for; and secondly, we don't want out-of-date information on the site, and the time involved in updating all our items - which number in the thousands - would not be justifiable. We do not offer a valuation service.
You will find over a hundred unidentified items in the 'pots' list. Strictly, they are not all unidentified - in some cases we know who made them but do not know anything about the maker. In other cases we might have a strong suspicion about the maker, but no conclusive evidence. Browse through the unidentified pieces - you might be able to fill in some missing links. Oh, and there is one - just one - joker in the pack. See if you can spot it.
This is an order. You will not find any nasties here - no pop-ups, no banners taking you to places you would rather not go, no intrusive cookies and most importantly no adware or spyware.
